Globalized
Gender Policy &
Sex Categories
My research investigates the social construction of sex categories and the implementation of gender policies as a transnational project involving global governing bodies, local institutions, LGBTQ+ organizations, and the public, with a particular focus on East Asia, including South Korea and Hong Kong.
The Travel of Transgender Exclusion Discourse
By tracing the travel of transgender exclusionary narratives and politics in contexts such as sports regulations, feminist movements, and human rights discourse, the study highlights the geopolitical dimensions of knowledge production around normative sex categories and transgender.
Physical Education -Sex-integrated Sports
This project explores the sociopolitical possibilities and challenges of sex-integrated sports within K12 physical education systems, with a focus on students's exposure and support for sex-integrated sports education.
Mental Health
and Depression
This study investigates how intersecting social positions—such as gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and regional location—shape the mental health outcomes of LGBTQ+ young adults in South Korea. Using the Multilevel Analysis of Individual Heterogeneity and Discriminatory Accuracy (MAIHDA), the research analyzes data from a 2021 national survey to examine patterns of depression and psychological distress.
Feminist Pedagogy
This project draws from feminist, decolonial, and queer pedagogical traditions to envision education as a practice of liberation rather than reproduction. It centers the classroom as a transformative space where students and educators co-produce knowledge through interdependence, critical reflection, and embodied engagement. Emphasizing geopolitical consciousness and historical specificity, this approach challenges dominant epistemologies and power hierarchies in higher education. By incorporating collaborative learning, contract grading, and political commitment, the pedagogy nurtures collective accountability and empowers marginalized voices to reimagine education as a tool for social justice.
